Sameh Hassan Shoukry an Egyptian diplomat born on October 20, 1952, in Cairo. With over four decades of experience, he has been a prominent figure in Egyptian diplomacy, particularly during his tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs from June 14, 2014, to July 3, 2024. Shoukry's diplomatic journey began in 1976 as an attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he steadily rose through the ranks with assignments in key Egyptian embassies ( London-Buenos Aires- The Permanent Mission in New York)and senior roles in Cairo.
Throughout his career, Shoukry has held various notable positions, including:
- *Ambassador to the United States* (2008-2012)
- *Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva* (2005-2008)
- *Ambassador of Egypt to Austria*and Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Veinna (1999-2003)
- Secretary to the President for information and follow-up (1995-1999)
- *Director of the United States and Canada Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs*
Shoukry has participated in several high-profile international conferences and negotiations.
He was President of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022 ( Cop 27) and headed Egypt’s delegation to the negotiations on the International Treaty to Combat Transnational Organized Crime. He has participated extensively in negotiations related to nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation.
He is known for his support of multilateralism and upholding international law and the importance of diplomacy.
Shoukry holds a law degree from Ain Shams University, which he obtained in 1975.
